There are so much young people from all around the world that you have really great time there!
The atmosphere was good. Nice central location (although this does imply that there are a lot of homeless people wandering the streets around the hostel).
The combined showers/toilet are very inconvenient. During the morning, when everybody is taking showers, it can be a long wait before you can use a toilet.
We booked a twin bed room, but just got banker bed,it was freezing cold and just one of three restrooms was open...it was not a good choice to stay, especially compared to other hostels where I stayed!
you will meet the young people all around the world！
great price, good location, nice kitchen, always interesting people hanging out
hotel staff was shotty. they were never in the office when they said they were going to be. because of this checking in/out was prolonged and sheets never got picked up. if you need to talk to someone in the office be prepared to wait around a while before you do..
There were dead bugs inside my pillow case, and the rooms had an overwhelming smell of cat urine. The door guy offered no help with all of my luggage up 4 flights of stairs, and overall cleanliness was disgusting.
Get ear plugs, walls are paper thin.
The guy on reception was really helpful, I only used the room to crash before traveling up to Reno. Decent for backpackers & near to transit lines for getting around San Fran.
good location.good value close to night life area
I liked that the hotel was located in the heart of San Francisco. It's location gave an me an excellent opportunity to explore the town by bus, rail, or even by walking.
Manager was helpful, wifi was OK, kitchen facilities fairly good (needed more cleaning though), handy enough to Union Square and BART/Muni
Not sure how "Executive twin room" matches with three plain sets of bunks... Nowhere near enough toilets in this place, esp. when each has a shower in the same room - once one is used, the other can't be. Bad stains on sheets. Room door lock was near impossible to lock/unlock - needs replacing. A couple of parking permits for use on the adjacent street would be nice.
The European Hostel is a true hostel not a hotel with three stars like booking. com were introducing. There young workers didn´t know about our reservation when we came in the evening but they found it quite quickly. They had to clean a room for us which took about 20 minutes. Bath- & restroom was shared and in morning we had to wait our turn a moment. I think there were an other one in the upstairs. There were free internet (and computer) in the spacious and well equipped common kitchen were you could prepare and storage your food. Instant coffee which was free but you had to make it by yourself and do the dishes afterwards. Location was excellent. We left our luggage to the kitchen for a couple of hours after check out like many others.
Soundproofing was very poor. We could hear all the conversation from the kitchen to our room. The place was decayed like many hostels are (bath-/restroom was the best). Cleanliness was moderate. In our room there were for example candies on carpet. The staff wasn´t really nice but we managed with them. A couple of weeks earlier we spend a week in San Francisco in a downtown hotel which was cheaper per night than this hostel. Actually this one night was the most expensive in our four weeks journey and the quality was the poorest but for one night it was tolerable. For budget travellers this may be better value for money if you stay in dorm but I didn´t speak with other guests so I don´t know.
The hotel was not very clean and the parking was very expensive.
Not the best nabourhood foor a family to stay.
I was happy to have a place to sleep at night. I wish I would have known there was a kitchen before I came to visit.
It was a lot of work tp carry my luggage upstairs. I wanted some storage units downstairs perhapse.
